I keep buying the damn carbon monoxide burgers and not being paranoid enough about the sell-by date. Grrr

Prepackaged burgers that come in sealed plastic trays are treated with carbon monoxide, which gives them a stable cherry-red color by binding to hemoglobin/myoglobin, they stay pink long after they've started to go bad.
