Is there much seasonal variation in terms of how many strays you see?
When it rains I usually don't see any. They often hang out on the landing when the weather is nice, but in the winter it's too exposed to wind and cold.
The main factor, though, is Little Mama (the big black and white one, she's the matriarch) and how many of her offspring are alive and hanging around. Sometimes I can rehome her kittens, sometimes they die, sometimes they grow up and move on.
Supposedly the coyote-wolf hybrids are heading south and I hope that that’s not the reason...
I saw a coyote in the area once a few years ago. There are eagles and wild dogs, too, but the biggest killer remains cars.
No surprise about cars. I know that when I had to leave north Florida in 2011 the coyotes were supposedly moving in already, but I don’t really know the situation...
