This article is insane and hilarious, like a satirical alternate history that actually happened. The leftist Wikieditor axe-grinding makes it even funnier. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bavarian_Soviet_Republic …

We will defeat capitalism by making money free!!!!

The way it wraps up with "fiendish far-right deployed horrible propaganda against the left, preventing the heroic left from stopping HITLER, just because the left turned the region into an abbatoir in two months flat and couldn't stop murdering each other, so unfair" is amazing
-
yeah that part cracked me up

“they used it as evidence that socialism is bad like MONSTERS”
-
IMO the hard left mainly loves talking about nazis so much because it’s the only thing that doesn’t make them look like the unmitigatable worst case scenario.
-
It's an exaggeration to say Nazism is Communism with better uniforms...but not much of one.
-
It’s a compound word. National means “localized ingroup” and socialism means “constant and unrelenting mass murder”. Clearly, “national” is the problematic part.
-
Socialism means 'constant and unrelenting mass killing'. It only becomes murder when it's done for the wrong reasons.

I was just thinking: Which periods in history were like the Great Weirding? 1919 would be a candidate, although avant-garde art started before WW1. On the right, there was Gabriele d'Annunzio's theatrical city-state in Fiume: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Italian_Regency_of_Carnaro …

I dunno much about that period, I was just doing a deep dive on stupid economic systems.
