For the travelers out there: pick any number on the Fibonacci Sequence after the first two "1"s, and that many miles is the next number in kilometers. So... 1, 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 13, 21, etc 5 miles = 8 kilometers, 8 miles = 13 kilometers, 13 miles = 21 kilometers ...and so on!

It converges to phi, which is roughly the right ratio, yes

It’s really more like 1.609 km to the mile, but 1.618 is near enough in practice. Hadn’t thought of that.

89mi = 143km, but the next Fibonacci number is 144. So the half-percent difference in the ratios does matter at some point.

Two digits of accuracy is pretty darn good, if you happen to have a list of Fibonacci numbers lying around anyway.
