TBF there is still research done in point-set topo. But there are few other dimensions of bullshit to his tweet.

My understanding is that "point-set topology" is an undergrad course and the grownup version is "general topology".

Fair enough, the research version is indeed usually called general topology, although I was never making a distinction between the two. I guess it's a cultural difference.
