Yeah, let's be like Argentina. (not)https://twitter.com/3r1nG/status/1061100191011536897 …

Her timeline is full of complaints about the harassment of journalists. It's mindboggling how entrenched the "ok for thee, but not for me" attitude is.
This is the part that I just cannot wrap my head around - deep, strong, public, intense hypocrisy...even if you truly have these thoughts, aren’t you embarrassed/ashamed to put yourself in a position to appear this way? Even if not, wouldn’t you feel you’re hurting your message?
I think until relatively recently, it was this way? Ten years ago, definitely "I disagree with this person, but this is wrong." Now people do an ideology check before having an opinion.
That's not how Latin Americans see it. People here do escrache when they lose faith in the justice system. They know they rarely get to hold the whip and figure they might as well use the whip as much as possible before they lose it again.
Except she wasn't referring to Argentina, and neither was he.
It's not like these sort of thing is genetic, you know. If people in the US are losing faith in police, courts and the law they will behave more like Argentina. Have Americans been doing escrache all along and it's only now in the news, or is it a recent thing?
The home of a journalist is none of those things. Nor are the spoiled, unemployed children of the DC elite "the people." Maybe consider that petulant mobs do no good in the US OR in Argentina.
I don't endorse the mobs. When politicians spread 'drain the swamp'-style rhetoric some people believe them. They believe politicians are corrupt and won't be punished because the justice system is corrupt too, so they have to take matters in their own hands. Yes, that's bad.
That's nonsense. It's the other party doing the mobbing, ffs. What planet are you from?
You think democrats don't believe politicians are corrupt, just because Trump said that and they must believe the opposite? If my choice of catchphrase confused things, consider Black Lives Matter. The other side also believes you can't trust the justice system.
what still gets me is how little the thought "you may be holding whip at the moment but that can change at any moment, & what then" seems to factor in, & among ppl who I'd have expected to have a better grasp of that than I'm seeing
then again the maximalism may be on a kind of "your power is insecure so do everything right now before you lose it" logic
