But that's the rub, no? When people talk about race, they aren't talking about clusters of genomes; they are talking about the stories people make up about clusters of genomes. @SenWarren's delusion about her ancestry is not that different than normal, everyday race talk.
They're talking about observed clusters of phenotypes, which aren't the same thing as sequenced and computed clusters of genomes, but aren't unrelated, either. Unfortunately, very few people have the expertise to interpret the latter properly.
When you can run a straightforward analytic tool (PCA is not hard to understand) and the geometry of the graph itself corresponds to observed phenotypic/cultural divisions in a pretty straightforward way, it's obnoxious to say "as though it were a measurable biological category".
"You can't do that!" "I just did. I just did measure a biological category, what're you gonna do about it?"
