The sexual assault rate at Duke is not 40% of female undergraduates. I guarantee you it's closer to 4%.

I'm going to assume it's approximately correct, as my personal guess for the female population in general is around that number.

Lifetime rate for sexual violence for women is about 44%, per CDC. https://www.cdc.gov/mmwr/preview/mmwrhtml/ss6308a1.htm … But that's *lifetime*. Most students at Duke are there between 2 and 6 years.

40% of undergraduates means either a) there's an active war zone where war crimes are going on or b) someone's using way too broad a definition of sexual assault. Favored method of b): define any sex while intoxicated to be assault.

The link to the Duke survey is broken, but the national survey that gives the 20% figure does exactly that: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/19433402 "physically forced, alcohol- or other drug-enabled, and drug-facilitated sexual assault before and since entering college"

Undergraduates like to get drunk and fuck. Redefining that as assault is neopuritan activism disguised as research.

I imagine the sexual assault rate for colleges and universities is higher than the sexual assault rate for people in general. Pick whatever metric you like for that. I also imagine the sexual assault rate more generally decreases with age.

It definitely peaks in late teens and early 20s. Still not going anywhere near 40% without cooking the books.

And it's lower for undergrads than for non-students of the same age range.

Weird. I wouldn't mind seeing that split out and seeing any further correlations.
