Important fact: Every time the Twitter shoves a 'So-and-so liked' tweet in your face, you must quickly and firmly rebuff the Twitter via the dropdown 'I don't like this tweet'. This frightens the Twitter and it will stop doing it for a few months.

People keep asking for tweets by the people they follow, in the order they were posted. Well, I'm not sure about mobile, but in the web client all you have to do is turn off the quality filter and slap down 'So-and-so liked' when it appears. It's annoying but not hard.

I've noticed that they'll pump my feed with out-of-order junk from earlier in the day at times when most of the people I follow go to bed. Doing the "i don't like this tweet" thing doesn't seem to affect it.

Is it doing the "In case you missed it" thing? You have to slap that down too.

Other parts of my feed are out-of-order when taking into account and the [x] liked/ followed by [x], replies and ads. 25m, 2m, 52m, 7m, 11m, 35m, 21m, 55m, 46m, 4m, 7m, 13m. Most of my twitter network goes to bed a half hour ago. During day is pretty consistently in time-order.

Its also at night when I see the most "so and so liked" and "such and such follow". It seems like algorithmic timeline used to keep the feed fresh.

If I let the TL idle for a while and then try to scroll down it, it will frequently skip a few hours. Reloading forces it back into order, usually.
