Pumpkin spice latte is basically a squash shake. You're the freak, not me. ;)
OK, to be fair, I'm also the freak, but for many entirely different reasons.
"Pumpkin spice" *isn't pumpkin flavored*. It's a spice blend traditionally used to flavor pumpkin -- typically cinnamon, nutmeg, ginger and cloves. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pumpkin_pie_spice …
What you're describing is literal "pumpkin spice". It's not the flavor of *anything* that is labeled or described as "pumpkin spice", which is the actual flavor of sweet squash pie. But OK, yes I concede the point.
As a good friend once said: "you're right, but I disagree with you." :>
The thing is, pumpkin has basically no flavor. Pumpkin pie is really 'spice custard pie, with squash to bulk it out because people used to grow tons of the stuff and they had to find ways to make it edible'.
A 'pumpkin spice latte' or whatever has zero pumpkin in it. Pumpkin cheesecake does, but you're still tasting mostly cinnamon, ginger and cloves.
