Ideal student is prospect -> graduation -> rich -> donations w/o wasting the university's time. They can tolerate a certain number of losers as long as they don't consume excess resources or pose excess liability risk. But they don't fund all-you-can-eat therapy out of altruism.

This is a serious problem at all elite universities. It literally happened to several of my friends. Never trust campus mental health with severe depression. Go off campus and find a psychiatrist without this type of blatant conflict of interest.
