background movie is THE MECHANIC and there's a scene with Bronson and his girlfriend about half an hour in that is just batshit insane they basically wrote an insane 1930s or 1940s emotional monologue for her in a 1970s movie and got an actress who couldn't sell it

update: turns out THE MECHANIC is basically an effort to make a generation gap movie commercial by making it about a hitman who makes a young friend what's weird about this: these days when a movie has a generation gap element it is almost invariably from POV of the young guy
