Windows Antimalware Service Executable has been eating 30% of my CPU for the last day. I installed Malwarebytes and deactivated Windows Defender -- and it's still eating 30% of CPU. Whee

Mine just started doing the same this week, I'm guessing some Windows Update (I'm still on Win8.1) cranked some setting up to 11.

I've found similar complaints going back ten years, but the only advice that ever comes up amounts to 'it's probably a process conflict but there's no way to find out or do anything about it'
