my take on hobbies that are likely to politicize: 1) the hobby can potentially lead to high-paying or high-status work 2) the hobby happens to be practiced by already-politicized people

There's a strong component of status-striving in tabletop, comics, vidya, and SFF SJW offensives, yes. Which is pathetic, because status in those hobbies is such a debased coin. But high-paying definitely does not apply.
