Coding every spell with a cryptic icon and showing you the icons when you wanted to cast something must have seemed cool and mysterious at the time, but in practice it was...just mysterious. By 12th level, your spell list was basically a letter from the Zodiac Killer.

And by the time you reached Throne of Bhaal, combat was a tedious matter of looking up recipes on the web for precasting layered magical wards, and then dispelling the other guy's wards -- ancient wizards playing Mornington Crescent.

Pillars of Eternity was insanely boring mechanics-wise. DND is super complex and so BG2 got a leg-up by having a ton of rules and already created items to lean on which PoE didn't, which made it kind of broken but gave you a lot of interesting character choices.

If you just want to make an adventuring party dating sim that's fine but then don't include a ton of exploration and combat!

Off the top of my head: Stargazer, Ara Fell, LiEat, Undefeated.

Stargazer has a romantic throughline and an emphasis on puzzles, Ara Fell has the strongest traditional storyline, LiEat is a weird Japanese mood piece, Undefeated is the most traditionally RPGish.
