Managed to drag the tarp back down with a rake, tied it down with a contraption that miiiiight hold as long as the wind doesn't come back. Rain is now coming in through the bathroom ceiling. Destroyed an old and beloved book of mine, is destroying the outer wall.
Housemates are having the roof fixed/replaced this weekend. Thunderstorm front came through, roofers put up a tarp and skedaddled. Tarp got blown off west side of house, water started coming through the pantry light socket.

No hope of fixing this because I am not going to climb three stories to the roof. Housemate is in New York this week. Hooray, hooray, everything is in ruins.

(Don't know enough about you to know if you have HOI or if even applicable to your sitch: just saying in hopes of sparing others loss & suffering)

Between my housemates (who own the house) and the contractor. Just took some pictures of the damage. Not super convincing because I don't think my phone is going to show the water that clearly. On top of everything else, one housemate is in New York right now.

N.B.: I am NOT an attorney, nor a PA...though having to deal w/HOI over a ~$1M policy for FOUR YEARS *did* render me a bit expert (as I absorb info *fast*, consulted w/Atty friends, and read everything I could including the state Insurance Agency: every state has one), so...

Damage is probably not that big a deal, assuming we don't get a thunderstorm overnight. And fortunately it's not on me to sort out. Sent pics to housemates though.

As a house fire survivor, I feel your pain (and what the fire didn't get, the 6.02*10^23 gallons of water the firemen used to put it out after tearing holes in the roof finished off most of the rest). So...sorry to hear about your woes :(

I presume housemate will have a lot to discuss with the contractor

In the event I can spare ANYONE the misery I endured...in your dealing with Homeowner's Insurance (HOI) or renter's insurance, GET A PUBLIC ADJUSTER IMMEDIATELY. DO NOT WAIT. Had someone told me that at the time, would have saved me HUNDREDS of thousands of $. HTH.
