New pinned tweet: General rule on my political tweets is that I rarely care about the object-level issue one way or the other. I'm interested in the little gnarly details of human group formation and how that's evolving under Internet pressure (in a terrifying way).

it’s funny now, nearly 3 months later, to think about this incredibly histrionic thread from back when twitter was totally definitely just about to explode.

As a former SRE, I'd just like to say: This site isn't going to burn down. That's way too calm and organized a death for a site this big which apparently just fired most of the on-call staff.

a cool thing you learn from history is that the western intellectual class were consistently wrong in one direction for the entire period 1945-1995 but then after that they learned their lesson and now they’re correct about everything again 😌

Firefox popped up an "upgrade" (fuck up the interface for no reason) box while I was typing and took my typing as a yes, and they poison-pilled their patch architecture a while back so you can't roll back anything, hooray

What I remember of the early months is a lot of contrarianism, they made it political from the start Trump wants travel bans, so the left opposes it and calls it racist... right urges precautions, so the pushback is to say its just the flu Then they swapped sides by June...

It's not wasted space, it's literally keeping the neighbors at a distance. Everything else is secondary to that.

An infuriating aspect of suburbia is the fact that most mega-lots are wasted space: water sucking lawns, heat sink cement, just outdoor storage, driveways you can land a helicopter on. That's wasted space homes could be on!!!

Also the boots and leggings blend into the floor and the skirt blends into the wall, so he looks like a floating furry torso (which is someone's excruciatingly narrow fetish, probably)

Let's say a genie offers to rewrite history for you and change the author of the Harry Potter books to someone of your choice. It assures you that they'll be just as popular and important as before. Who do you choose?

I know I'm a broken record on this at this point, but it still doesn't fail to kill me that the USMC let me run an entire barracks, functionally unsupervised, for a year, at age 24-25 with no degree, and I am not allowed to breathe without a training by the DHA at ~40 with a PhD

Unfortunately, budget cuts mean the sequels will be Avatar: The Way of Cardboard (Lieutenant Avatar goes to Space New York) and Avatar: The Way of Mocap (Captain Avatar hunts down James Cameron in his studio)

AVATAR: THE WAY OF WATER (2022) has been nominated for 4 Oscars, including Best Picture. Here’s some incredible behind the scenes footage of how the team shot motion capture sequences under water.

The Party for Socialism and Liberation, CPUSA, and Avakianistas get twitchy if they go too long without a fake protest to stand in front of

If brain-dead people made Kyle Rittenhouse killing two white people about racism, it's not surprising that they're trying to make 5 black cops killing a black man about racism too. Liars gonna lie, grifters gonna grift

Aside from the obvious, it's interesting that CBS is leading with a photo of communist toesuckers from the PSL. Never trust a protest group that owns its own print shop.

Mostly peaceful protests were held in cities nationwide in the wake of the release of video which showed the violent arrest of Tyre Nichols. cbsn.ws/3RsDOhz

BBC going from triumph to triumph right here.
Quote Tweet
This week, the BBC published an absolutely huge story. Conventional history states that horses were long extinct in the Americas at the time of the European arrival. Not so! says the BBC. Indigenous horses were not only present in 1492, but have survived to the present day

Theatrically restaging the Economic Calculation Problem in high school and college auditoriums across the country, over and over. Making it clear to everybody that those red-flag freaks are as bad as Nazis and as crazy as $cientologists.
