We understood the variation to this 33% statistic in our city by type of kitchen, inventory, store size etc.
Specific problem. Our version of the problem.

Step 2: Level down the problem
The only way to solve problems is to understand what's causing them in the first place.
Food goes unsold because supply exceeds demand.
When fleshing out the problem, don't think about the solution (just) yet.

Step 3: Unpack pain points
Getting food businesses to plan supply better seems straightforward, but erratic demand is the norm of the industry - everything from bad traffic to bad weather affects sales.
You cannot sell out soon either. So, adjusting supply is not an option.

Step 4: Constraints point towards the solution
When you can't adjust supply, you can only increase demand. In our case, amplify the discovery of unsold food.
A business knows exactly when the food is going to go unsold & it ain't when they shut shop, meaning you can plan for it

Step 5: Incentives determine the solution
The incentive for businesses here is not reduced costs. If they wanted to solve for higher costs, they'd have done it long ago.
They tried too. Remember seeing food listed at half price in the evenings?

remember that their incentives may be different than yours.

The right incentive here is to reduce the friction for the food businesses to sell unsold food.
They don't want to spend additional time and effort selling the same food that they couldn't successfully to begin with.

Reducing friction is easier than adding force.

And that is how we decided what will solve.
A quick recap:
1/ Start with *your* problem statement
2/ Level down the problem
3/ Unpack pain points
4/ Constraints point toward the solution
5/ Incentives determine the solution

Bonus: We hustled and built a landing page using no-code tools. We frustratingly went through quite a few, before deciding suits our purpose best.
Being absolute amateurs certainly didn't help. Show us some love and I'd happily write another thread.

Our landing page goes live next week and we're onboarding users for a pilot.
We have our reasons to drive signups through a landing page
We could be wrong.
Oh well, I'll probably write a thread about that too.

Having tested all the links 139 times and one more time for good measure, convinced me that a 140 times is an adequate number to stop obsessing.
