And yet we first heard about this yesterday, and no one from Pfizer or their board chose to alert the American public to this disastrously bad decision.

how is this in any way the responsibility of Pfizer? I do not pay my taxes to Pfizer. The entire US government needs to be fired.

They’ll only vaccinate enough people that they have a second dose available for.

This President has had so MANY failures but this may be the greatest. How much would this have cost? Couple billion versus the trillions spent on different stimulus programs.

My understanding is this was an option and not a commitment. It would have cost nothing to have that option. Another massive failure on this administration.

Pfizer did not take a $ up front from the federal government they didn't even pay upfront for the 100 million, just options. As usual the responsibility for this cock up lies at the usual place, the White House. I suggest you all vent your anger in the appropriate direction.

You like many have no clue what's going on because you haven't been tracking the vaccine program like many of us. Pfizer is the hardest to ship in store and had mid level results in earlier phases. Better vaccines coming before February. That don't need super freezers

Doses purchased by US Gov purchse from all companies? 1 billion. Doses does it take for the US to reach herd immunity? give or take 250 Million. Would you be happier if the US bought more Doses from competitors? Do you not get paid by the NYT? Do you get paid by Pfizer.

The problem is that (assuming that figure is right) 800M of those 1B doses are vaccines that haven't been demonstrated to be safe and effective. For now, we have two safe/effective vaccines and not nearly enough of them.
