Absolutely awful and tragic fatal hit and run today in SOMA. The driver is now in custody. One woman died, and another in critical condition.

Question Supervisor Haney. If the suspect has been caught and released multiple times by the DA whom you support will you finally be critical of his actions?
-
So supervisor as it turns out this criminal had been through the DAs catch and release program. Will you at the least say something about his agenda. If you say nothing then you must support it and then the deaths of these 2 women is on your hands too.

Bulb outs with solid bollards will do the trick. Self enforcing no tickets needed and works regardless of criminal status. Las Vegas got federal money to install solid ones on the strip, SF could follow that example.
-
The bollards are a great idea in a heavily trafficked area but in this case the stolen vehicle went through a red and struck another vehicle causing the vehicle to spin out of control striking the 2 victims crossing the street in the crosswalk.

What if, and bear with me here, the safer streets were created by physical barriers and not paint and signs? If drivers ignore painted stripes (and even the ‘law abiding’ ones do) why not build streets where this *can’t* happen?
-
This is not a safer streets issue in terms of barriers. Believe me, I'm all for less cars and safer biker/pedestrian movement. This guy stole a car and slammed into two women in a crosswalk like he was playing GTA. No speed limit, barrier, or pedestrian was going to stop him.
