Today I walked the Ballard Bridge from Market to Emerson and back, exploring the potential for safety-related additions to the paving project that is planned
Conversation
What if the bridge was reduced to three lanes with the center lane being reversible depending on the time of day. That lane could be for busses, carpool vehicles and freight traffic. The reclaimed space could be used to widen the sidewalk and add protected bike lanes

We discussed this idea during the walk… there are lots of complexities to implementation.

Thanks Greg! Next time please make an effort to stop underneath on Shilshole, the bike lane that has injured hundreds of cyclists, one still in the hospital in a coma. I have been emailing Sdot and your predecessor for 8 years trying to accomplish a simple fix.

Would Seattle DOT consider TiO2 additions to the deck? Folks get wrapped-up in the environmental saves, which is understandable as they are exciting. But natural TiO2 reactions also beneficially impact water and inclement weather-related safety:

Glad to hear it - super uncomfortable to walk it and even worse to bike it. I ride on the Fremont bridge instead for that reason
