wondering why IT professionals seem so overrepresented in buddhism and similar contemplative traditions. @Meaningness might say "access to kegan 4" but why then not biologists, etc? anyone have any ideas? @chaosprime

it's the other way around. (white convert) Buddhism is over represented in computer programmers.

haha, should have just asked "why does the venn diagram overlap so much for buddhism and IT"

I think a lot of it is related to the class background of those programmers (educated, intellectual, middle class) as well as the psychological traits that make adult conversion more likely (high openness, high conscientiousness), and the reputation of Buddhism in America.

Hippie culture and hacker culture have been deeply intermingled since their origin (see https://www.amazon.com/Counterculture-Cyberculture-Stewart-Network-Utopianism/dp/0226817423 … )
