I don't understand when bugfinders say that without them security would be horrible now. As if it isn't anyway. If we had way more compromises like they predict, don't you think we would fix the software? I think security would already be *more* secure if we didn't have them.

Google is routinely irresponsible in this area. What makes it truly remarkable is that they must know they are increasing risk

Cynics say “blurbs are just friends helping friends sell books.” But I stand by every word. Jon Haidt & Greg Lukianoff are channeling the spirit of John Stuart Mill into the early 21st century. And, boy/girl/…, do we need it!

There is too much herding around the conventional wisdom but most contrarians are wrong. The best forecasters somehow threat this needle

Thrilled to have my first piece on the NYTimes oped page on the evils of spreading stranger danger. And now THIS FACT about all those Facebook posts that say, "My child was almost sex trafficked from Target yesterday!" is in the paper of record:

Advocates of quantified risk estimates can really be their own worst enemies when they propose highly complex approaches (even though they are probably right). Better to identify steps in the right direction.

Cricket is the second-most popular sport in the world (soccer is first), but Americans don't talk about it a lot. Most Texans talk about it even less.

If you’re interested in the topic of prisoner reentry and are dismayed by this study’s findings, check out my recent review of what works (and what might work, and what doesn’t work) in this policy space. Onward!
