It is alarming to watch the #HongKong police with support from Beijing intensify their use of force against the protesters and label them violent criminals.

I urge Carrie Lam to meet with protest leaders to listen and act on their legitimate grievances including withdrawing the extradition bill, ending police violence & granting universal suffrage.

The people of Hong Kong are trying to preserve the promise of One Country - Two Systems. If we don’t speak out for human rights in China because of commercial interests, we lose all moral authority to speak out elsewhere.

I agree with most of what your write. However, the US never would have tolerated the privileged status HK enjoys within our federation. It is unreasonable that it continue indefinitely if we support the Chinese federation. Extradition, or federal rank, is normal of federations.

What an unimaginative, artificially constrained, and unhistorical point of view. There is no reason why “two systems” cannot co-exist in political, as well as economic, terms. History is full of examples of areas with unique status within a larger polity.

Happy to learn. You write that history is “full” of examples. This would suggest a heavy weight of evidence and your awareness of them. In numbers, at least a dozen examples, no? Please list them here so we unworthy heathens can learn.

Speaker Pelosi, as a constituent I also urge you to meet with protestors. While I in no way blame you for the horrid treatment of immigrants by the Trump administration I do feel it is imperative you do more to rescue the traumatized children separated from their families.

I support you, but to be “like water” is only a “tactic”. Those seeking democracy must be able to choose leaders, even at the protest stage—water must be directed to make power; otherwise, water will simply drain away. Organize to choose leaders. Seek international help.

「Be Water」 isnt 『like water』 This is higher philosophy and more than 「The Art of War」. For real Chinese culture, The Art of War just normal level. Be Water more significant.
