My next door neighbor was murdered by her ex-husband in front of their two little boys. This isn’t something that just happens to bad people. She was the sweetest person you could imagine.

*He killed her with a gun. She had picked the kids up from school, he followed them to their new house, waited until she got out of the car, shot her in the head, then shot himself. Now the kids are somewhere in Family Services, and they won’t tell me anything.
-
That's horrible, but to make this relevant he had to have a prior conviction of Stalking or Domestic Violence, and the firearm needs to have been purchased after that conviction. If so, then it's a perfect example of why the law is needed.
-
Either way, that is sad. You'd think that a family friend should be able to petition the court for a supervised visit. Isolating these children from someone they know and trust is doesn't sound good.
-
I don’t think I’m telling the story right. She was divorcing him when they moved in. She had a restraining order because he beat her. She told me. She went through the divorce process. He kept showing up. She moved. He followed her one day and killed her in front of the boys.
-
I wish that she was trained and owned a weapon and had been able to defend herself.
-
From what I know she was unaware that he’d driven up behind her. She was unloading the kids when he jumped out of his car and murdered her. She had been to court to stop him coming around. I know she had a restraining order. He still bought a gun and killed her.

How is the NRA issuing a vote? I wasn't aware they were an elected body of government.
-
Kinda like that corporate personhood thing. They bought their way in.

I'm a survivor and lucky my abuser never had access to a firearm. The average is 7 times before a victim can finally separate from her abuser. Some abusers suffer from mental disorders and self-medicate with drugs and/or alcohol. A perfect storm. No access to guns for DV abusers.
-
I can identify with you completely. Eight years of it. Tried to separate several times I was completely lost inside myself.

Wait, the NRA says misdemeanor domestic violence is no reason to take away a perp's gun rights, AND tells victims to use guns to defend themselves from a violent partner? Don't take away their gun rights, just shoot 'em?

-
I'm sure that the abuser will be more aware of when they plan on using a gun than the armed victim.
-
Right? Moreover if you read about mass shooters, there's a pattern of domestic violence there. It's not just the partner in danger. Teach someone that a gun will solve their anger and look what we get.
-
Also like suicide, guns are too easy to use for murder. It is a machine literally designed to kill a person as quickly and effectively as possible. If a person has issues of lashing out when angry, then the last thing they need is an effective tool to kill another person nearby.

My sister was murdered with a gun by her husband. She threw her body over her infants to save them. This will never be okay.

This is my sister holding me 6 years before she was ruthlessly murdered on the steps of a church, a block from a police station. He had a sawed off shotgun and a pistol. The first bullet liked her but he fired six more.pic.twitter.com/Mof3WT8ZLZ
