Thank you Speaker Pelosi. Denying Trump a microphone for his propaganda while federal workers are denied paychecks is the kind of brilliant leadership we need.

No. He actually doesn't have a right to address the nation. He has a constitutional requirement to deliver a report to Congress. Up until 1913, that was delivered via letter. Congress still requires that report. Any televised speech is just a show.
-
He does have the right to address the state he is the PRESIDENT for Christ sakes
-
Yeah cause the founding fathers knew about television so it’s a right.
Wrong! His administration owes a report to Congress. That is what is required. He can submit the report in writing. - 1 more reply

This is true but enough is enough. USA needs a better wall than what it has now. Annoying that people just can’t agree on a money amount. It’s freaking money- Doesn’t make sense.
-
Our Border Patrol doesn't want a wall, they want more technology, they want drones and marcbots because the fencing we have is enough. Also, both sides had come to an agreement for more fencing, vehicles, lighting, checkpoints and technology, he won't sign it.
-
The wall is a distraction for him to try and cut funds for Mueller investigation and as of Friday it might work. He has money for wall he has yet to use.
-
The wall is a symbol — monument to his ego as a “builder” and for nationalists to rewrite some of the founding principles of this country. Ie America does not stand for what it’s been saying all these years (coincidentally a Putin goal as well)
-
I kinda think there are already walls down there on the border, and they obviously work. “Thanks Jim”. Why not find the wall and move on. If you think Trump will not win this, you my friend have not been paying attention.
-
He'll open the government because his numbers have tanked Contrary to what your bubble on twitter tells you, the majority of Americans are pissed about the shutdown over a tantrum Then, he'll get what the two parties have already agreed to Then you'll pretend it was a win for him

Hey Nancy, you might want to reread... well, in your case, more likely read for the 1st time, the U.S. Constitution. The president has the upper hand here and can convene both the House & the Senate at a time of his choosing per Article 2 Section 3pic.twitter.com/JW6zRn8Lz9
-
That clause doesn't mean what you think it means. *Convening* both houses for a special legislative session under extraordinary circumstances is not equivalent to having the right to *speak* at a *joint* legislative session.
-
Understood. But it means that Nancy can be roped in by the President if she continues to act like a partisan loon. A convened session would send a powerful message to disabuse her of the delusion that she runs the show & be quite an inconvenience for the Dems like Mendez on trips
-
You do realize the government is made up of three equal parts right? He will soon find out he’s not a dictator/king.

You got part of that right, drop the bad.
-
You honestly think it helps that he won’t be able to give this speech to a bunch of suits instead of finding a very friendly forum to give the same speech with 100% support? This was a terrible political move and exactly what he wanted.
-
Psst! Guess what if he's not addressing Congress then it's not the State of the Union Address it's just another trump rally
