Democrats & an increasing number of Republicans in Congress have repeatedly urged @realDonaldTrump @SenateMajLdr to end the #TrumpShutdown and re-open the government while Congress debates the President’s expensive and ineffective wall.

Unfortunately,
@realDonaldTrump keeps rejecting the bipartisan House-passed bills, which have already received strong bipartisan support in the Senate, to re-open the government.Show this thread -
Instead,
@realDonaldTrump is still demanding that American taxpayers pay at least $5.7 billion for his wall, which can’t pass either chamber of Congress & of course Mexico is not paying for.Show this thread -
Now that the television networks have decided to air
@realDonaldTrump’s address, which if his past statements are any indication will be full of malice and misinformation, Democrats must immediately be given equal airtime.Show this thread -
On Day One of the new Congress, the House passed bipartisan legislation that honors our responsibility to protect the American people with funding for smart, effective border security solutions –
@realDonaldTrump’s wasteful and ineffective wall.Show this thread

Please, Madam Speaker. You can't let him have a wall so he can earn billions for his businesses. If he wins, it sends a message that this or any future POTUS can get what he wants by throwing a tantrum. It truly is up to you whether we remain a republic or become a dictatorship.

Classic totalitarian logic: manufacture a crisis, blame your opposition, and then assume absolutist powers as a necessary means of containing said crisis--that you manufactured on purpose.Fascists feed off the stupidity of circular logic--it fuels the ignorance of their base

You and Chuck Schumer also have the power to reopen government. Takes two to make a deal.
-
But there is a deal passed to open government, trump won’t sign it
-
No McConnell will not bring them to the Senate floor for a vote, he says that Trump will veto them, the truth is he knows Congress has the votes to over ride the veto, and that would open the Government, and Trump would lose, he's protecting Trump.
-
Agreed, they are complicit.

In fact
@realDonaldTrump and@senatemajldr CLOSED GOVERNMENT STOPPED PAYCHECKS in purpose. After DEMOCRATS PASSED the bill to open government. -
Got a source on that?
-
Yes. Mitch McConnell in his own words, spoken in public. And Donald Trump in his own words, spoken in public.
-
I should be clearer. What I mean is, did they take steps to stop paychecks above and beyond the way it would naturally happen as a result of the shutdown (for which IMO they are wholly responsible)?
-
Trump also froze the pay raise for federal workers that was due to them in 2019, citing budgetary concerns, while the White House gave $10,000 raises to their political appointees.

@SpeakerPelosi@realDonaldTrump it is truly amazing how #45 says he want to make america great but will allow families to go without food & basic necessities just because he want to say "I won". You are one selfish, out of touch, careless individual. - 1 more reply
