If ppl wanted to opt out before, you only had to pay a fractional portion of dues which was restricted to offsetting the cost of collective bargaining -- from which they benefit. It wasn't broken, why fix it besides to undermine unions writ large (see "built the middle class.")

I am a union member and I happily pay dues but No one should be forced to pay dues to any union. I think as a rule unions are a good thing, but not for everyone and that’s ok. It’s America we all have freedom of choices. I AGREE WITH THE SUPREME COURT RULING.
