Folks don't understand how widespread depression is. Depression sucks & many of us suffer from it. I'm in a good place now but I've been in v dark places. I want folks to know is there IS a way out. It may not feel like it but there IS & folks like me want to help you find it

We need to help folks understand there are options & relief IS available even if it doesn't feel that way in the moment. Please help amplify the work of Kevin Hines and those working to show a way out to those who may not be able to see it just yet

There is no understanding suicide just like there is no understanding school shootings and such. But I implore you to not be angry with your mother and son. They don’t attempt suicide out of any malice towards you. Instead, they are hurting in ways words cannot describe. /1

I know it is hard to handle. I know that it hurts. I know because my father committed suicide. But their is no malice in this act. It is all about an inward pain that even they don’t understand.

Some conservative GOP think mental illness is due to sin. Nice, eh?

I agree. Best thing anyone can do is to call someone, or stop by in person, who might be struggling, just to check in with them. Let it be ok for people to talk about their feelings & share where they're at.
-
Sometimes talking with well-meaning people is the worst thing you can do. Get professional help.
-
I think you can do both- I don't think it's an either or situation. We can abdicate all responsibility thinking we provided contacts to a professional & someone can still feel very much isolated & alone. Also we may be unaware that someone is struggling, unless we check in

Yes! Also, how about we focus less on standardized testing in school and focus more on social-emotional learning/developing the whole child?
