Supporting the #HousingProtest? Really? It was @joanburton who reduced rent caps below market rent and forced families out of homes and into hotels!https://twitter.com/LabourDublinCen/status/982596339975540738 …

When families broke up, the person left holding the baby and paying the mortgage could get no help with mortgage, had no enforced maintenance system and instead lost homes and ended up in hotels costing the taxpayer a lot more than the Mortgage Int. Supp. would have cost.
And when their mortgages were in distress, wasn't @labour in the govt that welcomed the foreign vulture funds that swooped in and bought cheap Irish homes and then through HAP rented them back to the Govt. at huge untaxed profits?
Yes, we all accept that lack of building over successive govts. has led to a supply problem and @labour are certainly not the only ones responsible for that, but @joanburton policies of reducing rent caps and stopping mortgage int. suppl. caused a lot of family homelessness.
The psychological damage to families and the financial cost to taxpayers from her ill researched and reckless policies exacerbated the problem. If @labour really want to support the #HousingProtest they should start by acknowledging their ownership in the problem
And then seek to undo the policies and damage caused by their one time leader.
