Why no recovery of the first stage? I thought that’s what Spacex is know for (in part).

Because it's an old flight proven booster, it can't be reused that often, because F9 Block 5 is coming up this month and for experimental data on the landings :)

Can they record vibrations from the 2ndS and run them through a device that will play out some kind of sound to transfer down, so we could "hear" it?

Block 4 boosters only have flown twice yet. This is its second flight.

Right.
@SpaceX seem to have decided that Block 3 and 4 boosters can't fly more than twice without extensive refurbishment. It will change soon with Block 5 boosters however, they should be good for ten shots in a row with just inspections in between, according to Gwynne Shotwell.
