If this is an expendable launch, why have the legs installed? They were missing from the last expendable launch. Why carry the extra mass?I can see keeping to grid fins, which are light weight in comparison and give you the opportunity to push the envelope and gather useful data.

Moving to McGregor, removing the legs, test firing the core and moving it back to KSC would take way longer and cost much more than just scrapping them. It would push the mission back by a month or so. I guessing they wanted it up ASAP judging by the lack of paint.

It just takes hours .they remove them while the booster remains vertical on a crane . Or at least that's what the lauded experts say on a Reddit thread

It could also mean that they fully intended to recover this booster stage until the Falcon Heavy bumped up against their schedule. Oh, the trials and tribulations of having two working launch pads a few miles from each other...
