And seven years later no other private vehicle has achieved that goal.

Ahem... Falcon 9
-
Falcon 9 isn't a spacecraft it is a rocket
-
But you said vehicle...

Fair point, first and only spacecraft to achieve orbit and return.

The first private vehicle to return from space was SpaceShipOne in 2004... and it was manned! The Dragon was the first private vehicle with orbital capabilities to re-enter from space...

You are indeed correct Nicola! And it too hangs from the ceiling. Looking forward to VSS Unity reaching space in 2018.pic.twitter.com/zM3JiRcRln

getting to the line that says "space starts here" is almost irrelevant, thats only altitude and holds no value. orbiting though requires altitude, velocity and facing the right direction so you dont burn up on entry. far more challenging.

Don’t under estimate what these people are doing. In our entire history only 2 people have crossed that line that weren’t riding in a government-built vehicle. And they are reentering the atmosphere and won’t make it home if they don’t get it right.

That's the thing about Dragons. Treat them right, and they always come home. Happy 7th birthday lil capsule. And congratulations to SpaceX for your continued ambition and success. Onward and outward!
