Yeah I was thinking re entry burn was a bit to short, speed still too high...
since it was a re-used stage, maybe the engines didnt perform as well as expected/not as efficient.
The titanium grid fins have already proven to be a solution.

We had hot landings before but not as hot as this one.

Iam especially interested in the condition of the grid fins. 
those did get roasted. I wonder how the engine bells handled that reentry.
