Today's @SpaceX announcement is exciting -- I can't wait to see what future Mars missions it leads to, both scientific and human exploration

Opening Mars to private exploration makes it all the more urgent that we land and collect pristine Mars samples as soon as possible.

Fortunately, Mars 2020 is being built just in time to collect pristine samples, and @SpaceX takes planetary protection seriously (I asked).

How could a Red Dragon launch in 2018 eventually lead to humans on Mars? Here's The Planetary Society's vision:http://hom.planetary.org/

So, we can assume @SpaceX will use a Falcon Heavy and some variant of Dragon for their first Mars mission. VERY doable!🙌 @b0yle @orwigwrites

@repaveli_p It wouldn't take much to mod Dragon 2. They'd need more fuel (so not as much room for cargo). Different parachute(s) for sure. 😎

@repaveli_p They have all the bits 'n' pieces needed already: Falcon boosters, Dragon capsules. Still to be tested: Falcon Heavy, Dragon 2.

@repaveli_p A small rover would be a great cargo for #SpaceX #RedDragon (and why not make it biped?).
