I had my consult with Dr. Chen who had taken over lower FTM surgery in California for crane. One can still have Crane do the surgery but its a longer wait. I was made to wait 2 hours past appointment time to speak with Dr. Chen . When I finally was in consult with him

he was rushed & out of breath. He asked what surgery I wanted & I said I wasn’t sure but I would like any and all information he had on the surgeries as well as before and after pics. He said he had no information to provide to me and no pictures.

I asked if he had any stats on complications, outcomes, successes etc... he said no. I then told him that I would not have a surgery if I could not see at least before and after pics. He said “I might have some in my phone” and scrolled through it for a while, then said

“I guess I deleted them”. He then asked if I would like to schedule the surgery with the receptionist on the way out, he assumed I was going with meta since that’s the way I was leaning. I told him no. Not today, I need to think about it. And I got the fuck out of there!

I was legit scared and couldn’t belief the lack of professionalism from Chen and the office. I was very depressed driving home because I knew I wouldn’t feel comfortable with these surgeries due to the lack of oversight & professionalism. I am so glad now that I didn’t do it.

I am lucky, so many many other’s were not. I feel deeply for the trans men harmed and used by these doctors in this way. And regardless of how I feel about transition now, no one should be made to be butchered. Their care should have the same standards as any other procedures

And yes, the trans community doesn’t like to hear this at all. Even basic questions and issues I brought up in support meetings about hormones was shut down pretty quick. “Well that’s your experience and you can’t speak for others” is their go to.
