Yeah, there is this prevailing belief that you can absorb language through some sort of osmosis, but its really not true. Especially with asian languages. Maybe moving to Mexico with a few beginning highschool courses would work - but def not China or Japan.
Well that is true kinda. You still need to look up words. Mass immersion hypothesis in my experience does work, but it's not without study, curated content and focused attention. All of those are easier to do online.
