Moving to your target country as a beginner in a language is largely counter productive. You need comprehensible input, heavy dictionary use, and repeat listening. Native speakers are only helpful if they baby you. Online resources are by far more effective.
I moved to Japan for 6 months as a beginner. While I did enjoy my time overall, I ended up frustrated with the language and spent more time just studying on my own. It would have been a more fulfilling trip if I learned for 1-2 years prior to going. Now I need to go again.
