Florida really likes authoritarianism.

Despite public outcry, the Florida High School Athletics Association is standing by its decision that girls submit menstruation info to schools: including age of their first period, how many days are typically in between their periods, and the date of their most recent period.

The cultural wake of Dobbs spreads far and wide and to Black women it says "shut up wench" if it bothers to acknowledge our existence at all

As the only African born, not being on the Africa subcommittee is not just an elimination of a unique voice but an elimination of all the voices that have never been heard on a committee on the continent. It’s racist, xenophobic and discriminatory.

A really smart piece from in about the dangerous messages reinforced by fat suits. She was nice enough to let me yell more about "The Whale", and have say more composed, eloquent things. Please read it.

It should not be lost on anyone that much of the scholarship he's attempting to delegitimize is the scholarship of Black women like Angela Davis, bell hooks, and Kimberlé Crenshaw. Never mind the now annual banning of Toni Morrison.

My latest. Black journalists knew from the jump that the end game of the CRT panic was to justify legalizing anti-Black efforts. Florida and DeSantis are showing us what was under their *ahem* hoods this entire time. washingtonpost.com/opinions/2023/

Still thinking about Celine Song’s acutely rendered PAST LIVES. A perfect script, and an assured lens. Greta Lee is fantastic (as is John Magaro). But Yoo Teo gives an immaculate performance, fluctuating through different tensions that build to three devastating words. #Sundance

Less than 3 years ago, the world marched for George Floyd and to end police violence Today, killings by cops are at an all time high. Keenan Anderson, Tyree Nichols, and Tortuguita are dead. And we're not doing nearly enough to stop it My new column

“These are real histories. The arguments about them are based on scholarly investigation and research...” Roderick Ferguson said. DeSantis calls Black history course ‘indoctrination.’ What do the authors Florida criticized say?

"Only the black woman can say ‘when and where I enter, in the quiet, undisputed dignity of my womanhood, without violence and without suing or special patronage, then and there the whole … race enters with me.’" Is Anna Julia Cooper's work verboten in Florida too?

There’s a new, growing form of right-wing antisemitism that claims to love Judaism but disdains most actual American Jews for supposedly doing Judaism inauthentically, compared to how these non-Jews think it should be done. Asking about opinions of “Judaism” won’t capture this.

Close. There are like, 16 first-time acting noms. This Oscars has quite a bit of diversity. Just no eyes for black women

Andrea Riseborough and Ana de Armas are in, while predicted nominees Viola Davis and Danielle Deadwyler are nowhere to be found. The Academy loves surprises—but not diversity. @beastobsessed breaks down what is going on with the Best Actress race: trib.al/acWxQ9r
