The man who has usurped the new knowledge suffers a transformation or enlargement of consciousness, which no longer resembles that of his fellow men. He has raised himself above the human level of his age but in so doing has alienated himself from humanity~CG Jung, CW 9

As Jung says, that helpful old man is activated when consciousness badly needs advice but finds that it cannot produce it on its own. In other words, we get this spiritual help from the unconscious only when we have made our utmost effort ourselves.~Marie-Louise von Franz

Once we have said yes to our odyssey and our humanity and returned home to our center, we find that we have traveled into self-realization. We have become conscious of the elements of our life, within and without, and conscious of our consciousness of them.~Bud Harris

According to Jung, the hero’s journey is a component of the collective unconscious. Joseph Campbell identified it in the myths & legends of virtually every culture on earth. Jung found it arising spontaneously in the dreams & neuroses of his psychiatric patients~Steven Pressfield

The alchemical Mercurius expressed "Help me & I will help thee." It is as though the unconscious is saying, "Give me my right,my share & then I will give you your share"; if we do not give the unconscious its due, if we do not pay attention to it, then it can't do a thing.~vFranz

What Jung's doing [in Red Book] is taking a journey to other pole of the world, to the pole we’d call the mythopoetic imagination or the unconscious. He’s using his imagination, giving image to figures and processes that are located in the unconscious &letting them speak~M Stein

There are many people who are only partially conscious. They know what happens to them, but they do not know what they do or say. They cannot judge of the consequences of their actions. What then finally makes them conscious? They meet with something fatal...~CG Jung, CW 11

the active intelligence of the unconscious doesn't manifest only in dreams. It sometimes manifests in most strange arrangements of fate, in synchronicities & in all those experiences where one has an uncanny feeling that one is being manipulated by a higher intelligence~von Franz

[T]he healing process in the psyche always takes the shortest possible path, but that sometimes involves a detour. And often the detour is necessary because there are certain blockages that the "straight" healing process can't surmount.~Marie-Louise von Franz

No one can make a dream. If, after the event, you analyze a dream, you find that it is a highly intelligent arrangement of symbolic pictures which you haven't made. That is how Jung defines or describes the spirit.~Marie-Louise von Franz

We always see that if the tension between the conscious situation and the too-low level of unconscious contents is too great, any gesture toward one side generally improves the other as well.~Marie-Louise von Franz

Jung defines the spirit/Old Man as the active power of the unconscious which invents & arranges or orders images. [T]he spirit, for Jung, is that in the unconscious which makes dreams, because a dream is a series of symbolic images arranged in definite sequence.~ML von Franz

Perhaps in your life you have already met people who have an awful neurosis, who come to howl to you about their symptoms & about the great fix they are in, and you know exactly how you could help them, if only they would turn to the unconscious. But they won't do it.~von Franz

The unconscious is not a demoniacal monster, but a natural entity which... is completely neutral. It only becomes dangerous when our conscious attitude to it is hopelessly wrong. To the degree that we repress it, its danger increases~CG Jung, CW 16

"Can a person be cured simply by working with their analyst honestly and with good will, or is one cured only when the Self and the unconscious want it?" We psychologists can't solve the problem, either. All we've done is to reformulate an old paradox in a new way.~ML von Franz

It baffles many people at first to hear that the imagination is an organ of coherent communication, that it employs a highly refined, complex language of symbols to express the contents of the unconscious. Yet, it is true.~Robert A. Johnson

Unlike the animus yang power that "cuts only" or focuses with driving intensity or hits arrowlike from Apollonian distance, the feminine yang feels more embodied and firmly grounded.~Sylvia Brinton Perera, Descent of the Goddess)
