Most of these societies run on membership dues and do a lot of legwork to promote the topics and communities they support. Acknowledgements go a long way to making ppl aware of these orgs. And it's a gracious thing to do.

Over the course of five years I have been the chair of two different committees for scholarly societies that support events and projects financially. Please remember to acknowledge those societies in publications that emerge from events they support. +

I’ve always believed that experimental archaeologists are the most gonzo motherfuckers of academia, and there’s nothing I want more right now than to collaborate with some for some chaotic good I have in mind.
