"now that the climate crisis is impacting the Global North, maybe leaders will finally act" I'm afraid. Will Global North leaders act on climate just because their countries are already impacted or the threats and risks of their future are suddenly more concrete and tangible? What kind of action will we see with this? Will it be climate action that saves those in the Global North but leaves behind the countries who have been impacted for so long; countries who have had decades of loss and damage and will only see more as business as usual continues? Will the Global North leaders use this as an excuse to not pay their climate debt through climate finance for loss and damages and adaptation?

Maybe now they'll act, but if they're only acting because their country was impacted then maybe they'll only act with themselves in mind. We saw this with the COVID-19 pandemic, sure some acted quickly but look at the stark inequity of the solutions. Once again, those most marginalized, those historically overexploited are left behind.

Will we end up seeing societies built on renewable energy, but not for (neo)colonies? Will that be kept away from us through intellectual property rights and so we'd have to go into debt to develop these? Remember that Global South countries aren't industrialized usually; some can't even process metals to make a single needle on their own. We're kept this way to we're dependent on the Global North so they can keep extracting natural resources for cheap.

development must be for ALL which means keeping in mind the most marginalized of every country, area, and community.
Will we see amazing adaptation measures but only for those who have voting powers in the Global North countries? This isn't to say don't set up adaptation measures for these people, what they're experiencing is horrible.

What I'm saying is as the climate crisis is here and we have the Global North has to cut emissions drastically and as the crisis gets worse and worse, we're going to have more and more impacted areas and more adaptation measures will need to be supported and this must be developed, supported, and available to everyone.

urgent climate action isn't enough, it has to be just and fair too.

Let's be careful when saying that now that nowhere is safe, *that's why* Global North leaders have to act because they'll be impacted too. Global North leaders have to act because they caused this. Full stop. To say otherwise is to say our lives in the most affected areas aren't as important.

Don't get me wrong. I'm not saying don't use the extreme weather events happening in the Global North now to say that the climate crisis is here. Please do, please point out and use everything you can to campaign for drastic emissions cuts, for urgent climate action. But be careful with how we phrase it, let's not forget those who have been left behind time and time again historically.
