My brother in law (that is a producer) said you do have to get permission for everything you use that isn't yours. That is hard when they usually don't write back. I have more luck getting permission for creative commons material than anything.
That's a hard legal claim to make, when there's legal precedent backing up fair use. People in mainstream media producers, directors, etc. often have a bias against online content and online creators because they didnt "follow the proper channels".
I agree w/ you but the fact is, unless you want to pay lawyers, fair use does not hold water w/ YT. If you want to be monetized, you have to get permission to use someone else's stuff, or find workarounds.
This will be interesting if i ever hit 1000 subs...I recall using 2 screenshots of @Barnacules's channel in a video but everything else is mine.. I wander if they will ding me for that.. Especially as II was praising Jerrys usage of keywords!
My main problem is this... YouTube: "Your channel can't be monetized at this time. Once you correct the issue, you can reapply in 30 days." Me: "Ok. What exactly do I need to fix? Which videos violate this rule?" YouTube: "I can't give that information"
