If you look at the chart there's clearly a few pulling ahead; whereas something like half of validators all joined at the beginning.

Also, are the Topaz rewards a realistic representation of what we can expect when staking on the mainnet?

If only 700k ETH stake then yes! So either we have a decent amount of people staking or the returns are amazing if you're one of the few who are staking.
