    3) overconcentration of power in the hands of the executive branch with huge control over all levels of gov't power cancelling out separation of powers and checks and balances, rule of law and constitutionalism & breeding various political ills as authoritarianism & corruption

    2) flawed elections - Guinea held elections in October 2020, the coup in spetember 2021 that ousted the gov't that 'won' this election was greeted by the public with celebrations. The trigger for the mass protest in Mali leading to the 1st coup was disputed parliamentary election

    Based again on research , I identified eight factors that account for this upsurge of coups 1) the erosion of State-society relationship characterised by the withdrawal by the public of its support and absence of trust in governments,

    On the current resurgence of coups, I highlighted based on research why 2021 marks the year of resurgence of coups in Africa, with 4 successful coups which is 4 times more than the average number of coups in a year during past 2 decades, as Amanj graph below shows.
