UPDATE: the team managed to get back into the office this evening, and the finished mag has now gone off to the printers. We'll do our utmost to get most subscription copies out for Wednesday morning as usual - and barring further bombshells, in most shops that morning too!

Pubs I hope they hang on to: Bradley's Spanish Bar, Hanway Street, North Soho. Please don't turn it into a Byron's...

    (3) There is a bigger question - who would trust a supposed "pro democracy" "People's Vote" group that has the part owner/boss of an anti-dissident hacking firm on their board ? - but small victories.

(2)Best for Britain refused to comment, and vaguely tried to hide Peel's involvement. Tribune said "isn't his role untenable ?". They didn't answer, but Peel has now resigned from Best for Britain (this is there formal company name)

    (1) Last year, with , I showed Stephen Peel, one of the leaders of "People's Vote" group Best for Britain also ran spyware/hacking firm NSO Group, accused of helping Saudi and other dictators hack dissidents' phones

Impressed by "The Lighthouse" : It's a grotesque horror film, filmed in a stark 'arty' B &W. A bit reminiscent of Lynch, somewhere between Eraserhead and 'Elephant Man'. Also a metaphor for your worst job, most annoying boss .This is the Office Party :

    (2) - positively say "EU people who are, post Brexit, making the committment to stay with us in the UK should get national voting rights" -Because this is the UK tradition (like we give voting rights to Irish and Commonwealth Citizens settled in the UK)

    (1) I think Kier Starmer calling for General Election Votes for EU people who settle in the UK is very good (as I've been saying for some time, like here ) - I think I'd put it a bit more positively though

(8)Challenging a possible "Guest Worker" scheme begins with how we treat our future work-mates who come to the UK under the new scheme. N.B. all of this applies to future migrants , NOT to existing EU people in the UK.

(7)So by in effect expanding the existing , unfair, "Tier" system of migration to all migrants, the Govt could create a low-rights guest worker system. This is not guaranteed - but they can and IMO will try this.

(6)In theory, many ("Tier 2") non-EU migrants are only allowed to stay for 5 years. In practice, though, these (often higher wage) workers do then become "settled" in the UK. There is a chance the Govt will now try stop much settlement beyond 5 years - a "Guest Worker" programme

(5)Currently proposed lower wage limit is around £25k - but the govt will also likely introduce "sectoral schemes" for even lower wage migrants. This is important because one bad feature of the new regime (currently applied to non-EU workers) is the boss decides if you can stay.

    (4) So currently, the (non-EU) migrants with limited rights tend also to be migrants with higher salaries (£30k). So not only will more migrants be pushed onto the lower-rights regime, more lower wage migrants will end up in this area - which is important

(3)Currently, non-EU migrants have a higher salary bar, because Freedom of Movement (FOM) means most lower wage migrants have come from the EU. Once FOM ends, the govt will lower the salary bar, to keep the flow of lower wage migrants .
