Thanks, but our gov don't listen. They will pass the new law.
They exually never once respected the outcome of a referendum. Ever.
And they now banned referenda. Really, they did.
Holland isn't what it used to be.

"Holland isn't what it used to be" amen to that. It's a pity actually.
-
Stop saying Holland. I hate it when Dutch people say it, it's the invented marketing name. Our country is called The Netherlands!
-
Calm down please. Holland is just a (ruling) region of the united kingdom of the Netherlands. Just like England is a (ruling) region of the United Kingdom.
-
I'm sorry but that's nonsense. The kingdom of the Netherlands has nothing to do with Holland. The name Holland has more historical reference than current usage. Except for the fact that it's become a province.
-
Holland is split into two provinces, Noord Holland and Zuid Holland. The Netherlands and Holland are no symnonyms but they are very much connected.
-
Right. So, how is it nonsense that ‘region’
#Holland (= 2 provinces Noord-Holland + Zuid-Holland) is a (west) part of the#Netherlands? This ‘Holland’ seats all main powers HQ of#theNetherlands: Parliament/Government,the King, national tv/media, multinational corporations, etc.

I'm one of the Dutch people who voted no. Although it sends a clear message, our government already stated that they want the law to pass anyway, and have the right to do so legally. The referendum is just a glorified piece of advise from the people and not much else.
-
So it's not binding such a referendum?
-
Exactly. It’s not binding.

What form of government allows the people to vote on issues loke this? We should bring it to the States.
-
Not to worry, it’s a non-binding referendum and they can just ignore it (they will). This was also likely the last time we got to vote, as the law has just been abolished by the parties that created it because they didn’t like our opinions.

"If voting could change anything, it would be made illegal"

I agree, but what has changed because of the Brexit vote?
-
So far not a whole lot. Maybe later.
