Businesses that make money by collecting and selling detailed records of private lives were once plainly described as "surveillance companies." Their rebranding as "social media" is the most successful deception since the Department of War became the Department of Defense.

Information pollution has poisoned us. People are being fed so much useless information on a daily basis that all of the most important issues get ignored while corporations seize power over everything. If they could read our minds and resell our thoughts, they certainly would.

But humans are far from linear rational thinkers. Imagine trying to untangle anything useful from anyone’s stream of random thoughts. Thank God.

Kurt, about addressing the actual issue Snowden brought up in that tweet, instead of reflexively defending the surveillance state. Or, are you one of those "journalists" influenced by the CIA?
