I’m not sure I would use this app to guard my laptop against evil maids, but I can think of some other uses.https://twitter.com/theintercept/status/944263151176044546 …

Edward @Snowden's app “Haven” uses a smartphone’s many sensors — microphone, motion detector, light detector, and cameras — to turn the device into a sort of sentry to watch over your laptop. https://interc.pt/2ByT1JT

Has any testing been done for resilience? I'm concerned that the "extra" Android phones used for this would be out of date/no longer getting patches, etc.

That'd be a great thread to discuss on the issue queue: https://github.com/guardianproject/haven/issues … -- my guess is that the device itself should be a throwaway without private data, given what it's expected to do.

You can also run Haven on a state of the art Pixel 2 XL if you'd like... but yeah, while we always prefer an up-to-device, it isn't as essential with that Haven device, since it is not meant to be your primary device.

All good points. Will check out the thread. I worry about old phones becoming worse threats/potential footholds in local networks than IoT devices.

Ubiquitous purrveilance must give us paws; fur not everyone can use TAILS to claw their privacy back. I am feline that Haven is a great tool to meowve us beyond thiss cat-and-mouse game with those trying to whisker away our securikitty.
