Hard pass. If I wanted Russia to access every sensor on my phone, I’d just move to Trump Tower.

The app's code is open source which means anyone can audit the code themselves and look for backdoors or spyware
-
Great plausible deniability for the packaged app that has the backdoors. Or is the build actually deterministic?
-
It uses reproducible builds if you install it from F-Droid https://guardianproject.github.io/haven/#install

You could use this to capture pictures of a thief who robbed your house to give to police. Then if the cops ever got back to investigating real crimes instead of just using stings to arrest people engaged in victimless consensual behavior, they might be able to catch them.

Strange, the app doesn't come out when I search Haven in google play. I had to go through the link in the article to reach it.
-
Ok for anyone reading this, it is not a problem of the beta status, probably just the google play indexes are not up to date at the moment of this tweet, if you look up "haven keep" or "haven watch" it appears in the results.
-
Yeah, it was just published to the Play Store, so that's my guess too

What a great idea! Give
@Snowden access to both your phone and your laptop. What could go wrong? You ARE kidding, right? -
You might as well run out and pick up a copy of Kaspersky Anti-Virus while you are at it.

I’m having problems setting it up for my iPhone via Signal. Help?
-
Do you have a separate Android device you're installing it on? Haven needs its own phone number that's separate from your main phone's phone number- do you have a phone number to use?
-
My main phone is an iPhone. I installed Haven with orbot on a spare nexus 5 I plan to use with this but it doesn’t have phone service. So all I need is a spare number (landline) and install signal on the spare phone?
-
Do I install signal on the nexus and set it up? Or do I do it through here?pic.twitter.com/KS42xDdxow
-
Set it up through here. You actually shouldn't install Signal on your Nexus 5, because then the Signal app and Haven app will fight over the phone number :). Next to "Activate Signal" tap "Register" then type your phone number (including +1 for country code)
-
Ok, I did it. And verified the number. Now on my main phone how do I get the real time notifications?
-
Oh, great. Did it work well with a landline? When I've been testing I've only been getting the SMS Signal verification code. Anyway, tap Send Test Message and put your main phone number, see if Haven sends you a Signal messagepic.twitter.com/E2TsfJlP3G
-
We need to enable landline/voice verification support for Signalhttps://github.com/guardianproject/haven/issues/51 …

This is awesome! Maybe the next advancement on this could be making it secure from 3rd party access when you are in SMS mode.
-
Unfortunately SMS is just insecure. If you don't want 3rd parties to be able to intercept the messages, use Signal instead
-
Ok. Thank you.
